Wedding

A while ago I was invited to a wedding. Just a few days in advance, I got the chance to buy a 50mm prime lens for my cam. No surprise, I wanted to try out this and the marriage was the perfect happing for this.
Unfortunately a lot of the pictures did not get sharp, but I think that was due to the fact that I shot the picture with a small aperture (1.4 to 1.8) and did not raise the aperture very much. The AF of my cam has difficulties in handling this.
I haven't tried shooting pictures on weddings before, but it was fun and because I was not the main photographer I was able to take this not that seriously :)

Dualism of Things

Today I finished the postprocessing of some pictures, It's sometimes quite hard to decide if pictures have their best expression in color or B/W tone.
I think it mainly depends on the personal likes or dislikes, but at the following picture, I couldn't really decide :)

Forms and Figures

While the last post had the motive of perspectives, I want to show some pictures that point out a theme mainly displaying forms and figures.

This picture displayes a shadow arrangement that was taken at night - here the main focus lies on the principle of repetition and mirrowing.

This B/W picture was taken at the Kaiserswerth castle ruin, the forms of the windows and the 'natural' repetion of the windows was quite good.
This scenery at the market place in Lank-Latum (Meerbusch) was interesting, because the sculptures are arranged in a way that they look at each other. On looking at the picture, the viewer's look also goes along the virtual 'look' lines between the figures. To emphazise them a little, they were put in a decent sepia color tone.
Lovely, isn't it ? Repetition of heart-forms in the foreground, emphazized by the vanishing background.

Being Perspective dependent

Vacation - the best time in the year and also for taking some pictures :).
As mentioned in the last post, I'm currently concentrating on B/W pictures, also trying to modify them slightly with gimp as postprocessing. Turns out not to be that easy ;)

This picture was taken in Meerbusch-Lank Latum, notice the perspctive of the BUS sign in this shot and the chess-like pettern of the pavement.
This shot also concentrates on the perspective within the pedestrian precinct. In the post processing, the picture was adapted to give it a more darker look and emphazize the quite abandoned touch of the scene.
This is a castle ruin in Kaiserwerth, on this shot I concentrated on the composition of the perspective (vanishing point in the upper third of the picture) and also the perspective of the stairs are in focus here.
This picture was also taken in Kaiserswerth, the narrowness of the forrest-walk was quite a view!

Do it Black and White

Wow, I saw my last post lies 4 months in the past, that's quite a long time !
I must admit I haven't had much time for taking pictures, but now I have some which may look quite good ;)
I tried to experiment a bit with B/W pictures, please feel free to comment them.

This is the starting shot on my series about New Zealand. Now as we are back in Germany from our absolutely wonderful world-tour I will keep adding pictures here in the next weeks just at the rate I'm able to sort, clean and postprocess the roughly 3500 pictures I shot.

The last night, I spontaneously decided to pick up my cam and take some night shots from the river-side-view of Mainz. Despite it was quite cold, the exciting part was to be at places where I already took some shots a few years ago using my old Minolta 505si (quite a good cam back then). Have fun and enjoy the view!

This one shows a view at the Mainz city hall, Mainz Dome and the 'Rheingoldhalle', a common event place on the other side of the rhine river (the lights on the lower right) .

Here I spotted the Theodor-Heuss bridge which connects the city of Mainz-Kastel on the other side of the Rhine river with Mainz.
The last one I call 'a Quiet view' .

Merry Christmas - a little picture taken from the christmas tree using flash-and-move technique :). I used an indirect flash and a shutter value of about a second to capture the background light.
After the flash fired, i moved the cam slightly and so got the moving lights before the shutter closed.

Impressions from Mainz

Today I post some pictures from my small tour through Mainz, where I will spent the christmas time.

I spotted mainly on buildings that had interesting forms, therefore I was able to see Mainz from a completely different point of view - there are really artful designs around !

This image shows the Mainz' theater, which was renewed in 2001 an now has a really impressive look.

The following one should have the title 'Missing' - guess why :-)

Tonight I was out, taking some night shots. They show the nearby 'Café del Sol' restaurant, which I think is a pretty sight at night. I like the light design that was used here to create a comfortable atmosphere. By the way, they have good drinks...

I spent the afternoon in Nürtingen, a small town in the middle of nowhere... There I got a nice shot from a tennis racket placed in a tree.. Whoever put it there doesn't seem to miss it :-)

Today I spent the day in Stuttgart and while driving home, the sun dissapeared in bright light behind the hills. Sorry I forgot to mention: it was a cloudy day and those shafts of sunlight on the pictures here were the only ones today :)I took also some shots of the Stuttgart television tower, my guess was that in B&W the tower looks more superior...
